A transponder is wireless control, communications, and monitoring device that receives and automatically responds to an incoming signal. Transponders transmit a location and positioning data from the   smart unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to the air traffic control (ATC) on the ground and to traffic collision avoidance systems on other airborne platforms, which helps maintain a safe distance between aircraft and UAVs. Thus, the transponders which are mounted on a drone to detect and display certain characteristics in real -time are called drone transponders. Moreover, UAVs are not easily detectable by ATC radars owing to their small size. The integration of transponder in UAVs provides the controller with a more complete surveillance picture as compared to primary radar and assists in ensuring accurate and safe flight operations. Furthermore, drone transponders have very simple module integration and configuration via a universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART) interface and control commands The drone control offers a display that provides information about pressure, altitude, air temperature, camera display, and other parameters. It is very easy to use and operate owing to the simple assembly design of the drone.

Government across the all the major countries have announced a lockdown because of the COVID 19 pandemic resulting in the halt in business. This has led to disruption in manufacturing of drone transponders. Moreover, due to decline in the economy, there is decrease in the demand for drone transponders.
