Decoy flare is an aerial infrared countermeasure used by a plane or helicopter to counter an infrared homing ("heat-seeking") surface-to-air or air-to-air missile. Flares are commonly composed of a pyrotechnic composition based on magnesium or another hot-burning metal, with a burning temperature equal to or higher than engine exhaust. The aim is for the infrared-guided missile to look for the heat signature from the flare rather than the engine of the aircraft engines. In response to the recent international conflicts, many nations have taken measures to improve and capitalize on their defense status.
