However, the high electric field strength across the contacts in the vacuum causes electron emission from the contact surface, which ionizes the residual gas molecules in the chamber, creating a highly conductive plasma arc channel. The vacuum environment prevents the arc from restriking, ensuring efficient arc quenching.

The arc quenching action of the vacuum interrupter rapidly extinguishes the arc, leading to the interruption of current flow. The interruption of current is essential for protecting electrical equipment, preventing damage, and maintaining the stability of the electrical system. Vacuum circuit breakers are commonly used in various applications, including power distribution systems, substations, industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and renewable energy installations.
